My Strengths

I took a survey about two weeks ago called the VIA Signature Strengths Survey. It measures out your strengths and out of twenty-four it tells you your top five strengths. My top five straights are:
1) Curiosity and interest in the world
2)Honesty, authenticity, and genuineness
3) Bravery and valor
4)Humor and playfulness
5)Industry, diligence, and perseverance
Not trying to seem cocky but I definitely agree with the results. But then I started thinking, nobody has ever seen my honesty as a strength. Some people say that I'm TOO honest. The reality is that I'm the kind of person who tells you like it is. I don't care if I hurt your feelings, that's just the way I am. For example, the other day my best friend asked me if I liked her new shirt. Her shirt was horrendous, like a "WTF was she thinking" shirt. I looked at her and said, "Dawg, you look sh***y, what the hell were you thinking when you bought that sh**." But my best friend is my best friend for a reason because she laughed and said, "FU, I like it." Maybe I'm a little bit to blunt for some people's taste, but that's just the way I am.

School Is Coming To A Close

School is almost finished...FINALLY! There is only one more week left and I'm starting to feel the effects of what they call "Senioritis." I can tell I have Senioritis when these symptoms show up:
1) Failing to write homework down
2) Using up my absences
3) Failing to turn in assignments
4) Leaving assignments to the last minute
5) My mind is focused on the upcoming break

Even though I'm trying my best to keep focused, I can't wait till Christmas. Every year I know what I'm getting but this year I have no clue. I love the element of surprise and I hope I get good presents. If not, there will be hell to pay. LOL, just kidding.

Thanksgiving Weekend!!!

Finally, a four day weekend! About my last blog, I went to GeekSquad and they told me it would cost at least $300 and that's if they would need any new parts. They are out there mothertrucking mind. So what I decided to do is just ask for a computer for Christmas. But back to my main blog, rest at last but I still have to work, which sucks. I had a Thanksgiving breakfast with my mom and the Thanksgiving dinner with my dad. Not to sound all emo, but it sucks when your parents are divorced. Don't get me wrong, it does have its perks. For example, more food on Thanksgiving to more presents on Christmas but nothing can replace family. Sometimes I wish my parents would still be together but they are much happier now with their new lifes. Tomorrow is Black Friday but I don't know if I'm going to go shopping. I haven't really heard of any good sales at least for what I'm looking for(Video Games).

Why, Computer, Why?!

I am currently writing this blog from my public library and I haven't been here since last year. My boyfriend called me Monday morning and told me that there was something wrong with my computer. He said that it turns on and everything works except for the Internet. When you click to go on it, it crashes. I'm so annoyed. The only purpose for a computer nowadays is for the bloody Internet and not to mention Microsoft Office. My boyfriend looked up the problem and its called "The Blue Screen of Death." I'm probably going to have to go to Geek Squad and get it fixed. I hope it doesn't cost me that much money because a girl has bills to pay.

What Really Grinds My Gears....

You know what really grinds my gears... I hate when people don't use your indicators when they're driving. Those flashing back lights where put there for a reason. If people would just use their indicators some accidents could even be prevented. It's so rude when your driving and you have to brake because some idiot wants to make a turn and he didn't even put on his indicators. Also, when you use your indicators use them properly. Turn them on at least fifty feet away from the turn. Not only would it make me happier but make the roads a lot safer.

Election Day!

Today is ELECTION DAY! (Finally!) I'm getting tired of hearing McCain advertisements trying to convince me to vote for him. I voted on Saturday and if you can't already tell, I voted for OBAMA. It took me four hours to vote but you better believe I put that "I Voted Today" sticker on proudly. The United States needs a change, and in my opinion if McCain gets elected it will only be more of the same SHItake mushrooms. I hope Obama gets elected president, our country deserves it.
VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!

Clubbin'

This Saturday that just pasted I went to a club called 90 Degrees with a few of my friends. It was fun but expensive. It was $30 because it was a celebrity night. Elepahant Man and all these other Jamaican performers were there. Overall, it was good but when the Jamaican performers came out, I didn't understand a third of what they were saying. I wish my boyfriend was there to translate(he's 1/2 Jamaican) but he was sick. Even though I couldn't understand them, they had these dances that were pretty cool. Me and my friends ended up leaving around five o'clock in the morning. The last time I went to a club was on my birthday(6/21), so I was definately exhausted but I really enjoyed it.

My Puppy!!!

This past weekend on Saturday, I got my new puppy. Yay! I named him Mozart and my boyfriend bought it for me for our six month anniverary. We adopted him and he is so cute. I didn't end up getting none of the breeds that I originally wanted but that's ok. I've had him for about five days now and I feel like a full blown mother. I didn't know that having a puppy would be such a big responsibilty but its a responsibility that I'm willing to take.

"Traditions"

A local festival that we have is the Peruvian Independence Day festival, celebrated on every 28th of July. Even though there are a lot of traditional Peruvian foods, the one that probably stands out the most is Ceviche. Ceviche is an appetizer made with raw fish, shrimp, and calamari. It is mixed together and cooked with lemon juice. It is eaten with a side of sweet potato, lettuce, sliced onions, Peruvian corn, and/or canchita(fried Peruvian corn kernels).

Those attending this event for the first time will learn that Peruvians are really family oriented people. They will learn that the Peruvian culture is very diverse. Ranging from white, black, to even Asian Peruvians. Peruvians are very proud of their country, from the food they cultivate to the riches the country provides. Also, they will learn about our strong religious beliefs in "El Senor de los Milagros" (The God of Miracles).

But in my opinion, when it comes to food, a dish is "traditional" when your country is the only one known for it. Your country is where the dish originated from. Also, when people who aren’t from your country ask you for that dish. For example, there have been times where I have told people that my family is from Peru and they tell me to bring them some Ceviche, the next time my mom makes some. The difference between calling a food "traditional" and simply describing peoples eating preference is that usually everybody likes the traditional food. For instance, it would be dumb to make pumpkin pie "traditional" in my family when nobody likes to eat pumpkin pie.

Shut The "Beep" Up!

This past weekend I went to go see the movie Quarantine. The movie was OK, I thought the plot about how it turned out to be rabies was pretty cool. When I get my dog, it will get a rabies shot. But the thing I didn't like about the movie was the view. I know they're trying to give the movie a more realistic feel but it was just too much. To be honest, it made me and my boyfriend a bit nauseous. But what really pissed me off was when people would talk throughout the movie. It's so annoying! I've seen a pattern that people usually talk the most during scary movies. There is nothing wrong with saying something to your friend but say it quiet enough so just your friend hears it, not everybody else. Plus, some people go to see scary movies just to get a little scared (believe or not), and somebody talking lessens the effect. So, if you feel the need to narrate the movie, please wait till it comes out on DVD and watch it at home.

Register For Classes...Just Don't Take My Class

Today, MDC is registering for the Spring 2009 Term. I looked at the classes and I got a headache. Trying to figure out how I can take all the classes I need and want, with the work schedule that I have was so confusing. Also, I love school but not to the point to go five days a week. I would like to just keep it Monday, Wensday, and Friday. I'm going to go register tomorrow but hopefully the classes I need aren't taken.

Scams and Frauds on the Internet

Lately, I've been a victim of Advanced-Fee Fraud. This is how the story goes . . . About a month ago, I receive an e-mail talking about this work-at-home opportunity. All I had to do was give them my name, address, telephone, age, and tell them if I had a bank account or not. Basically, what the job consisted of was that I would receive some money orders through the mail, I would take 10% for me, and then transfer the rest of the money through Western Union. At first I thought that this was fake who would send me some money orders through the mail, they don’t even know me. About two weeks later, I get four money orders through the mail, $950 each in my name. To be honest with you, I felt like just depositing the money and leaving it in my account but I didn’t. I went to the bank and deposited the $4050 and was going to withdraw $3420 but the bank wouldn’t let me. They said that I would have to wait five days for the money orders to clear before I could take out that amount of money. I was fine with it, so I headed off to meet my boyfriend at his job. I didn’t tell him anything about the job before but I decided to mention it to him. His eyes opened wide when he saw the balance in my account. I explained to him the situation, and he looked at me with eyes of disappointment. "I hope you know that was all a scam and if it’s real money, it’s illegal," my boyfriend told me. I first I didn’t believe him but I he started to explain and even printed out some information on it, I was convinced. I called the bank and told them what happened. They told me everything would be ok. Wrong! It turns out that for every money order I deposited I was charged a $12 returned check fee. Which I thought for so unfair because I told the bank that it was all a scam. I ended up closing my account and going to another bank. I learned my lesson. There is no such thing as easy money.

True Blood

I've been watching this new HBO series called True Blood. I love it! It has a little bit of everything from romance, suspense, to comedy. Its rated MA for mature audiences because it does have nuddy scenes, and it airs Sunday nights at nine o' clock. The reason why I love this show is because I have a fascination with vampires. Vampires have always been appealing to me. Even though they don't exist, the way they are portrayed in movies and shows is sexy (Or maybe it's just the actors who play them).

Who Are We?...Wait...Who Am I?

What does identity mean? That is the question. Well, identity to me involves a lot of things. Identity to me means your race, gender, your social status, your level of intelligence, the way you look, age, who you hang out with, and religion. Some say that identity is what your born with. Others say that our identity is shaped by culture, while some say it's shaped by personal choices. In my opinion, identity is all three of those things. For example, your born a female and everything is going well until you hit sixteen. Then, you see the way culture is and how women are treated. You think it's so unfair, so you decide that you don't want to be a woman anymore, and change into a man. All three influenced some way or another.

Puppies!!!

One thing in this world that I love is dogs. In my opinion they are the best pets you can have. Not to diss all the other pets but I love pets that you can actually interact with. So here is where my dilemma lies . . . I don't know what kind of breed to get. I love tiny dogs and big dogs. I have narrowed down my options to four breeds.

Maltese

Spoodle

So if you guys would like to help me out in my decision that would be cool. Thanks!

What's Your Style?

There have been so many times when I have been asked that question, "What's your style?" But honestly I’ve never had a one answer response. I cannot define my style in one category because I like all styles. From the preppy collar shirt to the shaggy Jordan shorts, I love it all. One thing I do believe is that music plays a major role in what style is. The reason why I don't really have a particular style is because I love all kinds of music from rap to pop, rock to classical, and even good old country.
Really what I wear on a certain day depends on the mood I'm in. if I feel tired and don't even what to be at school, I'll probably be wearing some Jordan shorts or sweats and a loose fitted shirt. But if I feel great, I'll most likely wear something cute like some skinny jeans with a nice blouse and some high heels or flats. I make sure though whatever I wear I do look fly in, even if I am tired. Not bragging, but I did win "Best Dressed" my senior year in OMEGA Singers. :)

School Again...

I started school on Wensday finally after a year-long break. Even though, the college experience isn't new to me, I attended a semester at FIU, it definitely felt like it was. Asking for directions and looking at the school map to find where I was located gave me memories of high school freshmen year. But as the first day of school finished, I was glad I came back. The reason why I took a year long break is because wasn't sure if school was really for me or something that I needed to do.
I love to sing and I already consider myself to be a singer but I would like that to be my source of income, not just a hobby as my dad calls it. The music industry is mostly about connections and who you know. That why I thought I didn't really need school, it’s either you got talent or you don't. Not only that but my father didn't see the point of me going to school for MUSIC, he doesn't see that as a career. During the year, I was going back and forth on different majors between business and psychology.
Everybody in my family kept pushing me to go back to school, study to be a doctor, a lawyer, etc. Until I had a talk with my cousin Oscar, and he told me, "You need to go back to school. It's not for me. It’s for you. But if you do go back, go back and do something that you love or enjoy doing. It doesn't matter what your father says or what anybody in the family says. Do what you love but just go back to school." That's exactly what I did.
I enrolled at MDC with my major being Music. Despite the fact that my dad still is against it and refuses to fund my education for this major, I don't care. I want to learn about my craft and perfect it even more and if I don't become a famous singer at least I tried and won't have the "What If" question. Even so, there are always paths I can take like a music teacher, a producer, etc.
